On the session of the Board of Directors of the Stock Company for Air Transportation Jat Airways, held on June 23rd 2009, the Board of Directors made the decision to initiate the procedure of leasing in two Boeing 737-700 aircraft.
Thus, Jat Airways is entering the fourth phase of its Business Turnaround Plan, envisaged for the period of time between the years 2009 - 2013 and approved by the Serbian Government in October 2008. So far, three phases of the plan have been completed. Jat Airways, according to the conclusion made by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, in those first three phases implemented complete business consolidation, executed cost reduction policy, introduced new transportation system and created the welfare program for those employees who have decided to voluntarily leave the company.
Apart from its own aircraft, the Serbian flag carrier also operates four leased aircraft (two ATR 72-200, one B737-300 and one B737-400 crafts) to cover its traffic network. After the expiry of the Contract on Lease, the leased aircraft will be returned to their owners.
Apart from reducing the operating costs, the B737-700 type plane of new generation will enhance the quality of service and upgrade the image of Serbia's flag carrier in the world. With its development policy and by making a decision to renew its fleet, Jat Airways has made a step further on its way of returning to the position of the regional leader.
