On March 31 Jat Airways flight to Berlin, Jat Airways marked the first in a series of anniversaries – the 45th anniversary of the national air company's regular flights to Berlin. It was part of this year's To Europe on the Wings of Tradition campaign, marking the company's regular flight anniversaries to a number of European cities.
Jat is among the air companies that have been flying longest to Berlin. The first flight in the now distant 1963 was preceded by an inter-state agreement on establishing regular international traffic signed in 1960 by the then Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia and the Democratic Republic of Germany. The same year on April 5, the company Interflug from East Berlin began operating flights to Belgrade. Three years later, on March 31, 1963, Yugoslav Airlines began operating flights to East Germany. Jat at the same time opened an office in this city and one in West Berlin as late as in 1969. At the time, Jat operated six flights a week. Considering the relatively modest political, economic and other relations between Yugoslavia and East Germany, East Berlin was not a big enough market for Jat but it was convenient for thousands of our nationals working in West Berlin.
After the Berlin Wall was torn down and the unification of Germany came about, Berlin became one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe. Today, it is recording the largest tourist industry growth in Europe and ranks third in overnight stays. This trend may also be felt in Jat operations, as with each year our national carrier records a growing number of passengers flying to this city. Our nationals living in Hamburg and Hanover use the flight to Berlin. For their benefit, Jat organizes bus transportation to/from the Tegel Airport. Jat flies to Berlin four times a week.
The initial e-ticketing results for this destination are excellent, as Berlin becomes ever closer for Jat passengers. Jat has recently opened a new branch office at the Tegel Airport such as renowned world air companies already have. This is part of the big drive to introduce the most modern ticketing. Jat has also presented its offer at the Berlin Tourism Fair. |
