Marking Jat’s 80th Anniversary Begins

Marking the 80th anniversary of Jat Airways’ predecessor – Aeroput, the first Serbian air company, began with the opening of an exhibition called "Eighty Years of Jat Airways" at the Serbian Cultural Center in Paris on Thursday, March 14.

This is the first in a series of exhibitions to be organized through June 17 - the 80th birthday of Jat. The exhibition will also go to London, Frankfort, and Moscow. The reason why Jat chose Paris to launch the marking its anniversary is yet another jubilee – the 55th anniversary of the line between Belgrade and Paris.

Serbia’s ambassador to France Predrag Simić opened the exhibition attended by numerous guests, including representatives of the French civil aviation authorities, Air France, the Paris airports and the French Aviation Museum as well as the Serb diaspora and the media. Guests included Jat Airways Director-General Nebojša Starčević, Paris-based painters Ljuba Popović, Vladimir Veličković, Petar Omčikus as well as Ms Beck, the ground stewardess who welcomed the first JAT airplane from Belgrade at the Paris Bourget airport in 1952.

The exhibition presented for viewing to the French public the long tradition of civil aviation in Serbia and Jat’s rich history.
