Man is a Mystery Waiting to be Unraveled – I find acting interesting because it means unearthing the origins of man’s different characteristics and actions. Man is a great mystery, isn’t he? We often don’t understand our own actions, let alone those of others. My efforts to grasp this riddle are played out through my acting, says Igor Djordjević. (...) ‘Silence Weighs Only upon Those Who Do Not Think’ This year Serbia marked the 50th anniversary of Ivo Andrić’s Nobel Prize Award for literature and one hundred years since the publication of Andrić’s first literary work. On this occasion, a bibliography of Serbian Nobel prize winner, Ivo Andrić, has been published, Emir Kusturica has started building the picturesque village of Kamengrad in Višegrad for the filming of Na Drini ćuprija (The Bridge on the Drina), and a number of other events have been organized in honor of Ivo Andrić, such as formal ceremonies and the screening of Bora Kontić’s movie Bez naslova (Untitled). (...) We’d like to do an interview with them. We enter the hall. Wait for Gorica and Dragan to come out of the studio. Their radio talk-show Budjenje (Waking Up) ends at 9:00 a.m. That should be followed, at least that’s what we think, by an introduction and then the interview. Then we’ll all go our separate ways, back to work until it’s time for a break. (...) The mountain resort of Divčibare is the fourth largest tourist destination in Serbia and at the same time a first-rate climatic health resort. The winter season here is particularly pleasant. The Crni Vrh terrain provides two ski paths: the old one, 800 m in length and suitable for less experienced skiers, and the new ski slope, 850 m long, more challenging and attractive for competent skiers. Mt. Divčibare also includes many terrains for alpine and cross-country skiing suitable for children and beginners. (...) The fairy world of Madurodam, a city unto itself, is populated by 16,000 miniatures and holds 10 museums, five railway stations, four churches, three theatres, 27 bridges, 58 ships, more than 4,000 vehicles, as well as schools, a university and a hotel. Twelve different models of trains run along four kilometres of railway that is reconstructed every six years… This Lilliput, the first ever mini-land in the world, has for a half of century been the most popular tourist site in Holland. (...) In this pre-Olympic year, the most successful players among Serbian athletes were water polo players, men volleyball players, women volleyball players and, of course, Novak Đoković, the world’s best tennis player. By mid-November fifty-one sportsmen had qualified for the London Olympic Games. (...) |
