Passenger baggage
- Checked (registered) baggage
Passenger`s baggage which is weighed and transported in the baggage or cargo compartment of the aircraft is called checked/ registered baggage. It is not accessible to you during the flight. Your checked baggage may contain only items needed for personal use during your trip.
Checked baggage is labeled with baggage tags showing station of arrival and are numbered with serial number. A portion of this tag is attached to your ticket for identification purposes.
- Free baggage allowance
Free baggage allowance of checked baggage depends on class of travel paid.
If you pay fare for higher class of travel, you may carry more baggage.
Jat Airways accepts checked baggage according to weight concept.
In accordance with class of travel paid, adults are entitled to carry 40 kg of baggage in the Business Class and 30 kg of baggage in Economy Class.
Children from the ages of 2 – 11 are entitled to the same amount of baggage as adults.
Children under 2 years (infants) are entitled to 10 kg of baggage.
To/from destinations in the United States and Canada, where passenger transport may occur on different airlines, baggage is accepted according to piece concept (i.e.the number of pieces of luggage).
Free baggage allowance is shown on your ticket or itinerary/receipt.
- Excess baggage
If it is ascertained during baggage check-in that weight of your baggage exceeds the free baggage allowance, you will be required to pay excess baggage fee for the excess baggage at the airport, for which you will receive a receipt. Excess baggage fee is charged per kg of excess baggage in case of weight concept.
- Items unacceptable as checked baggage
Fragile and perishable articles, money, jewellery, precious metals, computers, personal electronic devices, negotiable papers, securities or other valuables, business documents, passports and other identification documents, must not be carried in checked baggage.
If despite been prohibited, any of above mentioned items are included in your checked baggage, Jat Airways shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to such items.
- Carry-on baggage
Carry-on baggage is baggage which you carriy onto the plane in the passenger cabin and for which you are responsible. It is not calculated in the free baggage allowance of checked baggage. Your carry-on baggage may contain only items for personal use during your trip.
Depending on whether you are travelling on business or economy class fares, you may carry in passenger cabin the following baggage free of charge:

- a fully collapsible invalid’s wheelchair and/or pair of crutches and/or other prosthetic device if you are dependent on them.
We draw your attention that on flights with aircraft type ATR-72, due to limited space in passenger cabin, your cabin baggage may be taken from you near to the aircraft door and placed to the hold.
After landing, your baggage will be available on baggage carts, next to the aircraft stairs.It is obligatory to remove from your baggage which must be placed in the hold all dangerous goods (if any) which are permitted only in carry-on baggage or on one`s person, such as spare lithium metal or spare lithium ion batteriess, safety matches and lighters, mercury barometer or thermometer, heat producing articles i.e. battery operated equipment etc.
We recomend you to remove from mentioned baggage also all valuables, electronic equipment, important documents and medicines.
- Special baggage
The transport of special baggage includes: the transport of fragile and valuable objects, important documents, and similar items.
Passengers are required to notify the airline of the presence of such objects when they make their reservation, and such items require the approval of Jat Airways before they can be accepted onto the flight.

DANGEROUS GOODS IN PASSENGER BAGGAGE
Air transport is subject to strict safety rules. Before you fly, please check which items are forbidden for carriage in your baggage.
Bellow provisions on dangerous goods are general rules. However, there are restrictions on Jat Airways flights on carrying liquids, gels and aerosols in cabin baggage. Please see the "New security rules at airports".
Jat Airways also has limitations on items that can be carried in checked baggage. Please see "Items unacceptable as checked baggage".
Dangerous goods forbidden in your checked and cabin baggage
For safety reasons and in accordance with the applicable international regulations, dangerous articles such as those, listed below, must not be carried in your checked and hand (cabin) baggage except as specifically permitted.
- explosives, ammunitions, fireworks, flares;
- briefcases and security type attaché cases, cash boxes, etc. incorporating dangerous goods, such as lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;
- gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and poisonous) such as camping gas and aerosols;
- flammable liquids such as lighter fuels, paints and thinner;
- flammable solids such as matches and other easily flammable articles; substances liable to spontaneous combustion; substances which on contact with water emit flammable gases;
- oxidizing substances such as bleaching powder and peroxides;
- poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances, such as arsenic, cyanide, insecticides, weed killers, bacteria and viruses;
- radioactive materials and items;
- corrosives (such as mercury which may be contained in thermometers, acids, alkalis, and wet cell batteries);
- magnetized materials and miscellaneous dangerous goods;
- disabling devices containing an irritant or incapacitating substances such as tear gas and nutmeg or pepper spray;
- electro shock weapons, such as Tasers, containing dangerous goods such as explosives, compressed gases, lithium batteries, etc.;
- spillable batteries and devices, equipment with spillable batteries;
- personal medical oxygen devices that use liquid oxygen;
- your own oxygen bottle for medical use.
Dangerous goods you can carry without carrier's approval
- Aerosols in Division 2.2, with no subsidiary risk, for sporting or home use.
Permitted:- in checked baggage;
- Non-radioactive medicinal or toilet articles (including aerosols) such as hair sprays, perfumes, colognes and medicines containing alcohol.

The total net quantity of all above mentioned articles must not exceed 2 kg or 2 L, and the net quantity of each single article must not exceed 0.5 kg or 0.5 L. Release valves on aerosols must be protected by a cap or other suitable means to prevent inadvertent release of the contents. - Energy efficient light bulbs when in retail packaging intended for personal or home use.

- Fuel cells and spare fuel cartridges powering portable electronic devices (e.g. cameras, cellular phones, laptop computers, and camcorders) are permitted under special conditions. For more information, please contact our sales offices.

- Hair curlers containing hydrocarbon gas, up to one (1) per passenger or crew-member, provided that the safety cover is securely fitted over the heating element. These hair curlers must not be used on board the aircraft at any time.

- Insulated packaging containing refrigerated liquid nitrogen (dry shipper), fully absorbed in a porous material and intended for transport at low temperature, of non-dangerous products provided the design of the insulated packaging would not allow the build-up of pressure within the container and would not permit the release of any refrigerated liquid nitrogen irrespective of the orientation of the insulated packaging.

- Internal combustion or fuel cell engines

- Medical or clinical thermometer, which contains mercury, one (1) per person for personal use, when in its protective case.

- Non-flammable, non-toxic gas cylinders worn for the operation of mechanical limbs. Also, spare cylinders of a similar size if required to ensure an adequate supply for the duration of the journey.

- Alcoholic beverages, when in retail packaging's, containing more than 24% but not more than 70% alcohol by volume, in receptacles not exceeding 5 L, with a total net quantity per person of 5 L (24% or less is not subject to any restrictions).

- Portable electronic devices containing lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries, such as watches, calculating machines, cameras, cellular phones, lap-top computers, camcorders, etc., when carried by passengers or crew for personal use.

- All spare batteries, including lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries, for such portable electronic devices must be carried in carry-on baggage only. These batteries must have insulated terminals to prevent short circuits.

- Portable electronic devices containing non-spillable batteries. Equipment should be protected from self-involvement and short-circuit the battery. Batteries must be 12 V or less and 100 Wh or less. Maximum of 2 spare batteries are permitted whose terminals must be insulated to prevent short circuits.

- Radio isotopic cardiac pacemakers or other devices, including those powered by lithium batteries, implanted into a person, or radiopharmaceuticals contained within the body of a person as the result of medical treatment.

- Safety matches (one small packet) that cannot ignite in the event of any friction surface or a cigarette lighter that does not contain unabsorbed liquid fuel, other than liquefied gas, intended for use by an individual.

Note: "Strike anywhere" matches, "blue flame" or "cigar" lighters are forbidden.
Dangerous goods you can carry with approval of carrier
- Small non-flammable gas cylinders, containing carbon dioxide or other suitable gas in Division 2.2. Up to two (2) small cylinders fitted into a life jacket, and up to two (2) spare cartridges per person, not more than four (4) cylinders up to 50 mL water capacity (28 grams) for other devices.

- Carbon dioxide, solid (dry ice), in quantities not exceeding 2.5 kg per person when used to pack perishables, provided the baggage (package) permits the release of carbon dioxide gas.

- Ammunition (cartridges for weapons), securely packaged (in Div. 1.4S, UN 0012 or UN 0014 only, excluding those with explosive or incendiary projectiles ) in quantities not exceeding 5 kg gross weight per person for that person's own use. Allowances for more than one person must not be combined into one or more packages.

- Battery-powered mobility aids with lithium ion batteries (collapsible). Lithium-ion battery must be removed from the mobility aids.
Mobility aids and lithium-ion batteries permitted:- in carry-on baggage
- Camping stoves and fuel containers for camping stoves that have contained a flammable liquid fuel may be carried provided that the fuel tank of the camping stove and/or fuel container has been completely drained of all liquid fuel and action has been taken to nullify the danger. The fuel tank/container must than have the cap securely fastened and be wrapped in an absorbent material such as a paper towel and placed in a polyethylene or equivalent bag. The top of the bag must then be sealed or gathered and closed with an elastic band or twine.

- Lithium ion battery powered equipment containing batteries over 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh.

- Spare lithium ion batteries with a Watt-hour rating exceeding 100 Wh but not exceeding 160 Wh for consumer electronic devices. Maximum of two spare batteries may be carried in carry-on baggage only. These batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits.

- Mercury barometer or thermometer carried by a representative of a government weather bureau or similar official agency. They must be packed in a strong outer packaging, having a sealed inner liner or a bag or strong leak-proof and puncture-resistant material impervious to mercury, which will prevent the escape of mercury from the package irrespective of its position.

- Avalanche rescue backpack, one (1) per person, containing a cylinder of compressed gas in Div. 2.2. May also be equipped with a pyrotechnic trigger mechanism containing less than 200 mg net of explosives Div. 1.4S and cylinder of compressed gas not exceeding 250 ml. The backpack must be packed in such a way that it cannot be accidentally activated. The airbags within the backpacks must be fitted with pressure relief valves.

- Heat producing articles, i.e. battery operated equipment such as underwater torches (diving lamps) and soldering irons, which if accidentally activated, will generate extreme heat and can cause fire. The heat producing component, or the energy source, must be removed so as to prevent unintentional functioning during transport.

- Small oxygen or air, gaseous cylinders required for medical use may be accepted only if they are unloaded.

If you need additional oxygen for medical reasons, during the flight, you cannot use your own oxygen bottle. You can only use an oxygen bottle if it is provided by Jat Airways and attested in the company, provided that you have already agreed its use with Jat Airways and paid the appropriate fee at the time of booking your flight. - Portable medical electronic devices (Automated External Defibrillators (AED), Nebulizer, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP), etc.) containing lithium metal or lithium ion cells or batteries.

- Chemical Agent Monitoring Equipment, when carried by staff members of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on official travel.

List of prohibited articles in hand baggage
Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles on board an aircraft in their hand baggage:
- guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles – devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile, including:
- firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns
- toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons
- component parts of firearms, excluding telescopic sights
- compressed air and CO2 guns, such as pistols, pellet guns, rifles and ball bearing guns
- signal flare pistols and starter pistols
- bows, cross bows and arrows
- harpoon guns and spear guns
- slingshots and catapults
- stunning devices – devices designed specifically to stun or immobilise, including:
- devices for shocking, such as stun guns, tasers and stun batons
- animal stunners and animal killers
- disabling and incapacitating chemicals, gases and sprays, such as mace, pepper sprays, capsicum sprays, tear gas, acid sprays and animal repellent sprays
- objects with a sharp point or sharp edge – objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including:
- items designed for chopping, such as axes, hatchets and cleavers
- ice axes and ice picks
- razor blades
- box cutters
- knives with blades of more than 6 cm
- scissors with blades of more than 6 cm as measured from the fulcrum
- martial arts equipment with a sharp point or sharp edge
- swords and sabres
- workmen's tools – tools capable of being used either to cause serious injury or to threaten the safety of aircraft, including:
- crowbars
- drills and drill bits, including cordless portable power drills
- tools with a blade or a shaft of more than 6 cm capable of use as a weapon, such as screwdrivers and chisels
- saws, including cordless portable power saws
- blowtorches
- bolt guns and nail guns
- blunt instruments – objects capable of being used to cause serious injury when used to hit, including:
- baseball and softball bats
- clubs and batons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks
- martial arts equipment
- explosives and incendiary substances and devices – explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:
- ammunition
- blasting caps
- detonators and fuses
- replica or imitation explosive devices
- mines, grenades and other explosive military stores
- fireworks and other pyrotechnics
- smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges
- dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives
- liquids, gels and aerosols which are not packed in accordance with restrictions and requirements for transport of liquids, gels and aerosols in hand luggage.
